Lower Airway Dysbiosis Exacerbates Lung Cancer

چکیده

Abstract Summary: Accumulating evidence supports the impact of gut microbiota on clinical efficacy cancer immunotherapies against extraintestinal tumors, but it has not yet been addressed whether local commensals could also dictate prognosis patients with cancer. In this issue Cancer Discovery, Tsay and colleagues demonstrate that lower airway may harbor oral turn IL17-mediated inflammatory pathways reprogram host transcription to exacerbate lung progression. The Role of Lower Airway Dysbiosis in Asthma: Dysbiosis and Asthma

With the development of culture-independent techniques, numerous studies have demonstrated that the lower airway is not sterile in health and harbors diverse microbial communities. Furthermore, new evidence suggests that there is a distinct lower airway microbiome in those with chronic respiratory disease. To understand the role of lower airway dysbiosis in the pathogenesis of asthma, in this a...

IL-33 exacerbates eosinophil-mediated airway inflammation.

IL-33 has emerged as an important mediator in the immunopathogenesis of allergy and asthma. However, the role of IL-33 in eosinophil-mediated inflammation has not been fully explored. In this article, we report that IL-33 directly stimulates eosinophil differentiation from CD117(+) progenitors in an IL-5-dependent manner. Although resting eosinophils expressed moderate levels of the IL-33R alph...

Clinical Study of Lower-Lung Field Tuberculosis

Background: Lower lung field tuberculosis is atypical presentation of pulmonary tuberculosis which often causes confusion in diagnosis. HIV/AIDS epidemic has considerably increased its incidence. This study was designed to identify the prevalence and different clinical conditions of lung tuberculosis in conjunction with its common clinical and radiological presentations and its treatment. Metho...

Cigarette smoke causes acute airway disease and exacerbates chronic obstructive lung disease in neonatal mice.

Epidemiological evidence demonstrates a strong link between postnatal cigarette smoke (CS) exposure and increased respiratory morbidity in young children. However, how CS induces early onset airway disease in young children, and how it interacts with endogenous risk factors, remains poorly understood. We, therefore, exposed 10-day-old neonatal wild-type and β-epithelial sodium ion channel (β-EN...

Silencing airway epithelial cell-derived hepcidin exacerbates sepsis-induced acute lung injury

INTRODUCTION The production of antimicrobial peptides by airway epithelial cells is an important component of the innate immune response to pulmonary infection and inflammation. Hepcidin is a β-defensin-like antimicrobial peptide and acts as a principal iron regulatory hormone. Hepcidin is mostly produced by hepatocytes, but is also expressed by other cells, such as airway epithelial cells. How...
